You're not at all crazy. As you know, I totally agree with you. Most Americans want to believe in childish tales where everything works out good in the end. America is not exceptional; it will suffer the fate of every former world power. Most people don't really want to be informed, because then they will suffer with the discomfort of knowing that they should be trying to do something about it. Having lived "the good life", most people are too afraid to face any amount of personal sacrifice, and will continue to cling to a delusional fairy tale, rather than actually look into the platforms of third-party candidates who are actually laying out workable plans for a better future.
