This is an ode to all the people who keep trying, even though they are continually disrespected. Privileged folks, who complain about how the poor, the unemployed, the homeless, the immigrants, and the people of color “just don’t want to help themselves”, really have no idea about the challenges faced by these groups. The people who do the most complaining either can’t imagine themselves ending up in a disadvantaged situation, or they are living in an arrogant, fantasy world; one in which they see themselves as able to overcome any obstacle, because they know how to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. I wrote about that here: https://medium.com/@auntyjean/i-know-what-i-would-do-860bd6e502fe

The privileged folks are so busy complaining that they can’t breathe, when asked to wear a simple piece of fabric over their mouth and nose, that they are blind to the people who are really suffocating under the oppression of systemic racism. While the privileged are worried about CRT being taught in schools [note: if you believe this is actually happening, please read the definition of CRT and educate yourself], those being most oppressed in our racist system are striving to actually do the work of creating a more just society for all of us.

I mentioned the organization Uprise RI https://upriseri.com in my article…
