With two brothers-in-law serving long prison sentences (they are brown), I have learned so much about what happens in private and state prisons. I was so disappointed when your home state, CA, did not pass that bill. In my state, there are lawsuits going on about how prisoners are mysteriously dying. No answers are forthcoming. This whole prison labor thing is another white supremacist scam. Forcing prisoners to work is indeed slavery, and totally directed at black and brown people. Thanks for writing about this, Laura.
