When Was Your Last Real Challenge?
Do you think you’re ready for the hard times ahead?
Recent SCOTUS rulings have Medium abuzz. Most of us have an opinion of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and many of us are wondering about how fast and furious will be the overturn of other “privacy” issues — gay marriage, gay sex, birth control, personal medical histories, interracial marriage.
For about one-third of the voting population of the US, things are going in the right direction. These voters are blind to the harms of the Conservative SCOTUS rulings. They can’t imagine that anything will really change in their lives; after all, they are white, heterosexual Patriots. They believe in Making America Great Again.
Of course, these people are ignorant of history. They don’t see the fascists rising. They never learned how The Third Reich came to be, and they really don’t care. Recent US history is reminiscent of Germany prior to 1933, when Hitler came into power.
In reading diaries and letters of the average German citizens from that time, it is obvious that most of them did not support death camps and mass murder, but they went along with the Nazi regime, because there were some issues that they liked, and other issues that they did not believe would hit home for them — after all, they were “good” Germans.
