What is Truly Important to You?
What will it take for you to fight for it?
My neighbor, who is a resident doctor, is doing a “pediatric round” at the children’s hospital. She, and her fellow residents, are overwhelmed by what they are experiencing: emergency rooms with hours-long waits, and no beds available for patients needing hospital stays. Half the beds in this pediatric hospital are filled with children who are awaiting transfer to a child/adolescent psychiatric hospital that also has no available space.
My niece, a teacher, is experiencing a similar crisis. Students are beginning the school day so mentally stressed that they can’t concentrate. Many are behaving violently, as they don’t know how to handle what they are feeling. The school has only one counselor, who has a full schedule, all day, every day; and yet she still is only able to see a fraction of those kids who are asking for help.
Our children are in crisis. Is this a daily story in the mainstream media? No. What is a daily story is the crisis in Ukraine, and how Congress has approved yet another few billion for aid (mostly weapons) for that country, bringing the total U.S. military assistance for Ukraine to approximately $15.2 billion since the beginning of this Administration.
