We were definitely told not to be racist, we were not taught. My sister also told her kids, and lectured them not to correct Grandma and Grandpa when they made racist comments. One of my nephews remembers Grandma having a conniption because the Cinderella at Disney World was not white. I have no children, but I speak up at family gatherings when there is racist talk, and that is not acceptable to them. I would rather just avoid family gatherings, and have private conversations with the children at other times when we observe or hear things that are racist.
