We, too, only have one car that my husband uses only to go back and forth to work. I walk everywhere or take the bus. I chose my neighborhood because it is walkable. My mother offered us her car when we stopped driving, but I told her to give it to my nephew. Like you, I didn't need the extra expenses of registration, inspection, repairs, and parking. Our neighborhood mom-and-pop stores offer delivery, which is a boon to those who aren't able to walk.
