The Power of Rebellion

Voting is Important

But it’s not a panacea

I always vote. I acknowledge the contributions of the generations before me, that have allowed me the “right” to vote. That right didn’t come easily. Suffragettes and civil rights activists protested and died in the streets, or were imprisoned, to grant women and non-whites the privilege of voting.

But, I understand that simply voting in every election is not enough to bring about the changes that are necessary for a healthy democracy. In 2022, it’s more about trying to prevent a fascist takeover than what promises are offered on a party’s platform.

Candidates promise things, but they rarely deliver on those promises.

It’s up to “we, the people” to keep our representatives’ feet to the fire. But, that’s not something that is done enough in the US. Here in the US, too many people simply shrug their shoulders, say “oh well, that’s how it goes”, and return to their everyday lives; lives that are just getting more miserable and impoverished with each passing day.
