I don't know that humankind will ever come to full agreement on may issues. Yet, discussion and understanding are useful tools for connecting with each other. The US, where we still have "the death penalty" (capital punishment as mentioned in your article) provides an example of how vastly opinions can differ even in a nation-state. I am shocked that people can actually still believe that killing people is some kind of just punishment. Yet, I am surrounded by people who believe in this "eye for and eye" kind of "justice".
