There was a case of plundering of artifacts from Hawaii that was in the courts in the 1990's. The ancient Hawaiian ceremonial spear rest was returned to Hawaii (although payment was involved, legal stuff) from Providence, RI. I was living in Hawaii at that time, and I am from Rhode Island, so I remember all the hoopla surrounding this issue. Hawaii became a state due to a military overthrow of Queen Liliokalani, and the Hawaiians still have many issues with the mainland US.
