The Hubris of the Corporate Elite
Cultivating the mindset of the servant
I’m looking for some righteous anger here! Wake up, wake up! There is no such thing as trickle-down wealth and the corporation is not your friend.
My husband is an employee of an assisted living community. This facility, which was independent for 16 years, was recently taken over by a corporation, which owns several other buildings and businesses in the State.
The new CEO has made numerous budget cuts. Almost daily she issues a memorandum to all employees, informing them of new policies.
Full-timers have had their shifts changed with a day’s notice; no unused vacation days can be carried over to the next year; no more overtime (even when an employee is in the middle of helping out an elderly resident); employees must now download an app on their personal phones to “punch” the time clock or request time off (you know they are tracking employees through this app); employees are required to work in other buildings that the corporation owns at the will of the CEO.
This treating of employees as mere cogs in the machine is bad enough. But what made me absolutely furious was the arrogance of the CEO, who somehow thought that giving all employees a gift card for $70 to the local Stop ‘n Shop would make them see her as a…
