Just Kidding; They are Already Here
I live in Providence, RI: a rather liberal-minded city in a Blue State. We have a slate of progressive candidates regularly seeking election to local offices, a thriving art and music scene, drag queens who read to children at the public libraries, and an openly gay, long-time Representative in Congress. Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design and other universities are located here.
The latest census showed a population of 34% white, 13% black, 6% Native Americans, 6% Asian, and 44% Hispanic. Providence has 8 synagogues that I know of, and it is not uncommon to see many Jewish families, in Orthodox dress, walk to services together. Overall, Providence looks to be a very tolerant place.
We have lots of Mom and Pop, locally-owned businesses, and independent book stores and reading rooms.
