Just try to do the right thing

Ever wonder why you even bother? You carefully separate your recyclables only to find out that most plastics are never really recycled, ditto for the glass.

You give to a charity, only to find out the some administrator embezzled funds, your contribution going into her pocket.

You carefully return your shopping cart to the cart corral, then watch as another cart that someone just left in their parking space, gets caught by the wind and smashes into your car.

It’s frustrating. It’s discouraging. It can make you feel like it’s not even worth it to try to do the right thing.

I don’t like being part of the problem. I try to do the right thing. Many people laugh and label me a “sap,” they tell me that my little actions won’t make much difference in the long run.

But, that’s okay. I can live with myself in the now. My actions align with my words. There’s peace in that.
