Staying Centered When Surrounded by Fear-Mongering

I’ve been following Caitlin Johnstone’s articles about the fear-mongering propaganda employed by the mainstream media in Australia, insisting that the public needs to prepare, both psychologically and materially, for the coming inevitable war with China,

Caitlin provides details of reports from Murdoch-owned Sky News, that include quotes from “experts”, including gems like this: “Most important of all is a psychological shift. Urgency must replace complacency. The recent decades of tranquility were not the norm in human affairs, but an aberration. Australia’s holiday from history is over.”

Ugh!

According to this fear-based reasoning, working for peace is a naive pursuit, as times of tranquility are simply aberrations in the norm of human affairs. War is the status-quo. Humans are simply incapable of evolution.

When I think of today’s children, who are bombarded by this type of rhetoric, my heart breaks. I understand how they may simply “shut down” emotionally and stop caring about anyone or anything. The fear is too great to face, and the parents that they turn to for comfort may be unable to provide answers to help their kids navigate these difficult times; as the…
