Mindfulness
Sometimes. . .
I need a reminder
Sometimes, on those early morning walks with Rosie, I am in a rush to get back home to my cup of coffee. Rosie, though, is savoring every sniff of flora and fauna that wafts through the morning air.
“Hurry up,” I urge. “You’ve been sniffing at that same spot forever. Just pee already!”
But, Rosie is much wiser than I am. She stops to watch the squirrel scurrying across the top of the fence. She sticks her little face right into the shrubs to see what the sparrows are up to. She is mesmerized for a moment by the blinking green light on the Spin scooter that sits on the sidewalk, awaiting a new rider.
“Mama, pay attention,” I sense Rosie’s message. “You’re missing all the good stuff!”
And, I suddenly awaken to all that is happening around me. The buzz of the insects, the songs of the birds, the breeze that murmurs through the leaves, the scent of the dianthus.
Thank you, Rosie. You save my life every day.
