So many excellent points! So many people experience abusive, violent childhoods and get in trouble with the law in their teens and early 20's. Then, no matter how much they have redeemed themselves, and no matter how many years have elapsed since any offense, they are still regarded as criminals. I know the most loving people who have "felony assault" records because they defended themselves from gangs. It was survival and self-defense.
