Public education in this country has been in trouble for a very long time. I think much of it has to with seeing education as a means to prepare for the job market, instead of a a way of encouraging creative thought and critical thinking skills. As Noam Chomsky has said, "Mass education was designed to turn independent farmers into docile, passive tools of production."
