No, I’m Not Trying to Get into Heaven
I just can’t un-see
“Why can’t you just be happy? Why do you have to look for problems? Why do you have to think so much?” These questions have been posed to me since my childhood.
Believe me, I would love to not have nightmarish images inhabiting my brain, but I cannot “un-see” the disparity in our world. While I understand the cognitive dissonance that is required to participate in everyday life, I can’t just brush it all away with “that’s just the way the world works.” I want to help find a better way.
I want to help find a better way.
People who are “concerned” about me, will tell me that I am stressing myself out over things that I can’t control. That I have to take care of myself first — to look out for Number One.
Taking care of myself first and looking out for Number One are two very different things. Caring for myself first is wise, as I can’t help others if I am mentally, physically, and emotionally drained. But, looking out for Number One implies grabbing “mine” before any one else can get “theirs.” See the difference?
