Mom-and-Pop Stores
Experiences that a big-box franchise just can’t provide
An article by Teresa Roberts got me thinking about the things that make a neighborhood liveable.
One of the main reasons that I chose to live in my neighborhood is its “walkability.” My section of Providence, RI has a Walk Score of 82, meaning most errands can be accomplished on foot.
One of the delights of this walkable community is all the mom-and-pop businesses. I live off Hope Street, and the photo that graces the article below is a mural on the side of the dry cleaner’s building.
Most of the buildings are old, and they still retain their historic character. The doctors, the dentists, and the veterinarians all have their practices in old, reconfigured homes.
