Super Bowl ads cost big money. Therefore, I was surprised that Jesus could afford not only one, but two, ads during Super Bowl LVII. Guess he’s part of the 1%.

Watching the Big Game with my husband, we were reminiscing about the creativity of the ads from years ago, when the first He Gets Us ad aired. I turned to hubby and said, “So, now even Jesus needs an ad rep?”

The HeGetsUs ad campaign promotes its purpose as:

He Gets Us is a diverse group of Jesus followers with a wide variety of faith journeys and lived experiences. Our work represents the input from Christians who believe that Jesus is the son of God as well as many others who, though not Christians, share a deep admiration for the man that Jesus was, and we are deeply inspired and curious to explore his story.

But a closer look into the ad campaign tells a different story.

He Gets Us is a subsidiary of the Servant Foundation, a charity that has given tens of millions of dollars to the far right Alliance Defending Freedom, which is leading fights for anti-abortion laws and has been designated as an anti-LGBTQ hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center
