I was raised in an atmosphere of strict adherence to Roman Catholicism. It was extremely traumatizing. Like you, I could see how the priests did not follow "the rules." Organized religion turns me off. I really don't think that religion should be taught in public schools, with the exception of something like a comparative religions class at the high school level. As for the 10 Commandments, as other commenters have noted, they are specific to the times and to Judaism.
