I visited Tangier Island in the 80's, as part of a tour group. There was something creepy about the community. On boarding the ferry going back to the mainland, a young woman was clinging to her parents and crying. She was leaving the island, leaving her husband, and her parents were trying to protect her from her husband and his parents who were trying to make her stay. It really upset me.
