I, too, stayed in an unhealthy friendship far to long for this reason, we had been friends since childhood. She keeps trying to reconnect (I blocked her phone calls). Every time I am tempted to reconnect, to give her another chance, I remind myself of the relief I felt when I ended the friendship.
