I think it's good that the birthrate is down in so many places. I'm sorry for the infertility issues, but less people on the planet is better for the planet. The BBC strikes a very "capitalist" argument for the replacement birth rate: the declining workforce. That is one of the real reasons behind all the anti-abortion rulings (because you know those rich folks will always find access to abortion for themselves): the capitalist ruling class, the corporate elites who do most of the polluting via mega yachts and unsustainable fuel choices, would prefer that poor women not be able to terminate unwanted pregnancies, and that would cut into the ready supply of more poor people who have little choice but to work for the poverty wages. If we the working people would unite internationally, we could work on systemic change that would address the root causes of pollution, inequality, and poverty.
