I always ask my guests if they have any food allergies, and the response is usually reflective of the current food trend (no gluten, no nightshades, no grains, low carb). It's easier to just go to a restaurant, although I love to cook. It seems though, that none of these people have a problem with rich desserts, and fried everything. As a long time vegan (before it was a "thing"), I got to be an expert at pushing my food around my plate, or holding a piece of food on a fork. Then I would announce that I would help clear the table, and I could dispose of the uneaten food. Back in the day, almost no one understood someone who didn't want to eat meat. Today, most hosts of dinner parties will ask, and I quickly volunteer to make a dish or two to bring.
