How I Spent My Summer Vacation
The adult, pandemic, going broke version
Summer is my favorite season. I love the flowers, the vegetables, the warmth of the sun. I love being able to just put on a tank top, shorts, and flip flops to go outside, rather than layering on a sweater, coat, scarf, hat, mittens, socks, and boots.
My husband tells me that I exude happiness when summer weather rolls around.
This summer has been hot, and while I have still been able to enjoy being outside every day, the fear of global warming is always present now. The droughts in some places, the heavy rain in other spots, the fires all around the globe. I wonder how many more summers the world will be able to enjoy, as record high temperatures encapsulate the planet.
Summer used to be a time for outdoor gatherings. Now, it is too hot for the elderly relatives to sit outside, and many family and friends can’t get together because someone is always down with Covid.
Same is true for summer vacations. Many of my friends have had to delay or cancel their plans due to Covid. And, if they do get to travel, their flights are delayed or cancelled.
Summer, a time for relaxation and carefree fun, has become so complicated.
