Here is my longish answer. Why did (and does) slavery exist? To build empire. Slaves built the pyramids, slaves tended the sugar plantations, child slaves still pick cacao pods that go into most chocolate bars, and on and on. I think it is love of money, more than hatred of skin color, that allows slavery to continue. The US was founded on slave labor, black slaves built this country. Whenever we have an effective activist for civil rights, they get assassinated. The powers behind the empire, behind the money, do not want to see peace and cooperation among the "masses". A united population would spell the end of the billionaire class. As for Germany, the German people who were anti-Semitic (and not all Germans were), did not all of a sudden grow a conscience after WWII. Germany, and much of Europe, were economically devastated when the war ended. The Marshall plan helped build the economy, but not out of a love for the people. The US was afraid that the poor, disenfranchised European nations would turn to the Communists if left in a state of desperate poverty. So, with the help of the Marshall plan, Germany and much of Europe were rebuilt, and cooperation among all the people was highly encouraged. Anti-Semitism wasn't extinguished; it wasn't outwardly shown, as it wasn't profitable. Here in the US, we have yet to have a large-scale war on our own soil that would leave us dependent on other nations for our very livelihood. But that time is upon us now, in a way, as our economy tanks and we have huge trade deficits. So, the 1% that are raking in the money, feed the flames of racism; it keeps the masses blaming the blacks, the browns, the immigrants, the poor--anyone but the billionaires themselves.
