Studies support markets, not you
I’m often asked how I stay thin and fit. Those who ask me this question seem to be seeking a magical answer — a secret supplement or a “one-size-fits-all” type of fitness regimen. I’ve learned that my truthful answers only disappoint.
I try to sideline these folks by taking a diplomatic path. “Oh, I try to eat right and walk everyday” is my usual answer. This rarely dissuades these seekers of miracles from further questioning. They tell me that they will do anything to lose weight, to get healthy.
“I’m a vegan,” I truthfully answer. I am not a junk food vegan (Oreos and potato chips are vegan, after all). I follow a whole foods, plant-based, low fat, vegan diet. No milk, no cheese, no eggs, no meat, fish, or poultry.
“Oh, I could never do that!” (Hmm, you just told me you would do anything.)
An important note here: I did not start preaching veganism, I was pushed for “my secret” to keeping the pounds off. I am not judging anyone. I would have been happy to stick with my original diplomatic answer, and just move on.
The one-sided debate continues. The “I could never be vegan, my body needs meat,” or “I tried to go vegan, but I felt weak,” and on and on. I don’t keep up my side of the debate, experience has taught me that…
