Member-only story
Dear Unemployed Friends
That job you applied for really never existed
I am currently unemployed, as are many of my friends and relatives. We share stories of filing job applications and never receiving responses.
Of approaching the management of stores that prominently display “Urgently hiring” signs, yet being told that the process of employment starts by filling out a form online. If they desperately need employees, as their sign implies, why not engage in dialogue right here, right now? I’m willing to start today.
Or of actually being accepted for an interview, and being told, “We will get back to you when we make a decision, “ yet we never hear back. Follow-up calls to the management go to voice-mail.
Or, even making it through the first interview process, being granted a second interview, then never hearing from these hirers again. What was the purpose of the charade?
I’ve become very suspicious, after never hearing back from potential employers about jobs that I have been highly qualified for, and have even accepted the lowly wage that I was told of during the interview process. Upon returning to the places where I have applied for work months later, I notice the “now hiring” signs are still prominently displayed, yet the position remains mysteriously unfilled.
