All these problems are due to corporate greed and putting profits before people. Most of the young people in my neighborhood are young resident doctors and new school teachers. There are still many young people who want to go into these professions, but they get burnt out quickly. The public school teachers in my area are required to be in work from 7am to 4 pm. Then, they still have to go home and correct homework assignments and somehow find time for themselves and their families. They are working in schools w/o adequate numbers of guidance counselors, but plenty of SRO's https://upriseri.com/no-to-sros/. As for doctors and nurses, they soon learn that insurers decide who gets care and what that care will be, not the medical professionals. Also, due to union-busting tactics, nurses today (several in my family) have unsustainable nurse/patient ratios, that don't allow them to provide necessary care. Every hospital in my area has weekly picket lines (informational pickets), begging for funding for these situations.https://upriseri.com/butler-hospital-staff-pickets-over-staff-staffing/. People didn't work harder in the past, but the rich paid more in taxes, and the 1% didn't own and control everything. Parents didn't have to work 2 or more jobs just to get by, so they actually had more time to spend with their children, which makes a difference in children's behavior at schools.

What we have a shortage of is real activism. How many people are joining the picketing nurses and doctors and teachers in their fight to make things better? There is no returning to the past. We need to come together and forge a new future.
